Trips to the nearby Chirripó National Park: this is particularly interesting because of the diverse types of landscape. There are high plains with stunted trees as in the Andes, oak forest, fern groves, rainforest, swamp, crystal clear glacial lakes and the highest mountain in southern Central America, the 3819 metre high Cerro Chirripó. It has been a National Park since 1975 and covers 43,700 hectares of land. The signs in the forest show what you can expect (pumas, tapirs, etc.). Although the climb up the Cerro Chirripó is not easy, the three mountain huts and numerous paths make it perfectly feasible for walkers with stamina, as long as they are not afraid of the cold or the rain. The best months for the climb are February and March. We will be happy to provide you with further information.
Playa Dominical and beaches in the south: Playa Dominical is a long brown sandy beach with good breakers for surfing and shady spots on the sand for tents. Dominical lies about 35 km south of Santa Teresa.
